Latino Heritage Month celebrates "Uniting Our Roots"
Iowa State University will hold its Latino Heritage Month celebration under
the theme of "Uniting Our Roots" throughout September and October.
Opening ceremonies will be held on Friday, Sept. 10. The event will start with
a parade called “"The March of the Americas" during which Iowa
State students will carry the flags from all Latin American countries and the
United States from the Campanile into the Great Hall of the Memorial Union.
The march will begin at 11 a.m., and will be followed at 11:45 a.m. with the
opening ceremonies of Latino Heritage Month in the Great Hall.
Other highlights of Latino Heritage Month at Iowa State include:
* Fiesta Dance - Friday, Sept. 17, Sun Room, Memorial Union, 9 p.m.
* Latino Arts Festival - Wednesday, Sept. 22, Parks Library, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
* Author Esmeralda Santiago - Thursday, Sept. 23, Sun Room, Memorial Union,
8 p.m. Santiago's first novel, America's Dream, has been reprinted
in six languages.
* "Celebrating our Triumphs" - Tuesday, Oct. 5, Campanile Room, Memorial
Union, 7 p.m.
