ISU chemistry professor’s research is recognized as ‘most cited’

AMES, Iowa – RSC Publishing has recognized Victor Lin’s research among the most cited papers published by the company’s flagship journals, ChemComm and ChemSocRev. Lin is a professor of chemistry and director of the Center for Catalysis at Iowa State University. He also serves as the program director of the Chemical and Biological Sciences Program in the U.S. Department of Energy Ames Laboratory.

“Mesopourous silica nanoparticle based controlled release, drug delivery, and biosensor systems” was recognized as within the top 10 articles published by RSC in 2007. The paper was co-authored by Brian Trewyn and Igor Slowing, both assistant scientists at Ames Laboratory, and Supratim Giri, a former graduate student of Professor Lin.

Lin’s research centers on the design of functional nanoporous materials for biotechnological and biomedical applications, such as biosensor design, drug delivery and gene transfection. Lin said his team was invited by the journal editor to write a featured article on their recent research, which was funded by the National Science Foundation and Department of Energy.

“We are happy that our research results were recognized by the peer researchers worldwide,” Lin said. “We will continue to push the envelope of this exciting and burgeoning research area.”

ChemComm (Chemical Communications) publishes short reports of the most innovative research in all areas of the chemical sciences. ChemSocRev (Chemical Society Reviews) publishes accessible, succinct and reader-friendly articles on topics of current interest in the chemical sciences.
