Political science's Ardith Maney honored by Ames YWCA
-
Ardith Maney, professor of political science, was selected as the Professional
Award winner at the 5th annual YWCA Women of Achievement Awards luncheon
in early November.
Maney was recognized for "her impact at the international level,
and bringing the world to Iowa and Iowa State."
Over the past 10 years, Maney has focused her international work on women
scientists, academics and municipal administrators in developing nations.
Her goal is to help women improve their opportunities for success and
survival. She has received funding from UNESCO and the National Academy
of Sciences and has participated in two Fulbright appointments – one in
the Czech Republic and one in Lithuania.
Her nominator states, "Whenever I meet people who have worked with
Ardith in Central and Eastern Europe, they have nothing but praise for
her projects and the advice she gave them. Her partnerships often are
non-traditional, as she seeks the expertise of a broad representation
of the community. She has and continues to build bridges between Iowa
and women in developing countries."
The YWCA Women of Achievement Award is given a professional who goes beyond
the job description to provide leadership and serve women and girls and
eliminate racism in the workplace.
