January 2, 2008Eight-state music competition Jan. 18-20 at Iowa State UniversityThe West Central Division of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) will hold its performance competitions on the Iowa State University campus Jan. 18-20. Performers will represent the states of Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. Each performer was a winner at their respective 2007 state competition in junior, senior and young artist categories in brass, piano, strings, woodwind, voice and chamber music. Competition rehearsals Friday and Saturday evening are closed to the public but competition performances are free and open to the public. The competitions will be held in the Music Hall at Iowa State with competitions held throughout the day Friday and Saturday, Jan. 19-20. The performers will be evaluated by panels of adjudicators who have been selected from university faculty and private studios in Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Performers selected as winners during the three-day competition will advance to the MTNA national competition in Denver, Colo., March 29 to April 2, 2008. The MTNA's West Central Division competitions are jointly sponsored by Iowa State's Department of Music, North Dakota Music Teachers Association and the Iowa Music Teachers Association. William David, professor of music, is the site chair, while Mason Conklin is the monitor chair and Paula Forrest is the hospitality chair. |
