  • ISU Wind Ensemble to raise funds for Europe trip with "Music Marathon"

  • The Iowa State University Wind Ensemble will be raising funds for a summer tour of Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic with a "Music Marathon!" on Friday, Jan. 21.

Members of the Wind Ensemble will perform non-stop music from 4-10 p.m. that day in the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall.

There is no charge to attend this event. Tax-deductible donations will be accepted and compact disc recordings of the Wind Ensemble’s recent "Tribute to Sousa" concert will be on sale for $15.

Students are currently taking pledges to help reduce the cost of the trip. Individuals wishing to make a contribution to the Wind Ensemble should contact Stephanie Greiner, associate director of development, at 515-294-7766 or at sgreiner@foundation.iastate.edu.

Throughout the six hours of the "Music Marathon," soloists and chamber groups will perform on the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall stage. The highlight of the marathon will be an informal concert at 7:30 p.m. by the Wind Ensemble under the direction of Michael Golemo, director of bands.

Several guest conductors are slated to direct the Wind Ensemble during the "Music Marathon!" including Tom Hill, vice president of student affairs; Pete Englin, dean of students; and Sue Haug, professor and chair of the Department of Music. Donald Simonson, professor of music, will appear as a vocal soloist.

The Wind Ensemble will tour Europe this May with performances in Prague, Vienna, Salzburg and Dinkelsbuhl. Students are paying a majority of the costs associated with this trip.
