History emeritus professor on "Why Iowa"

In conjunction with the new exhibition of the original Morrill Act at the Christian Petersen Art Museum, Dorothy Schwieder, emeritus professor of history, will discuss the significance of the act and Iowa's role Sunday, April 6, at 2 p.m. in the Petersen Museum, located in Morrill Hall.

Iowa State was the first college in the nation to accept the terms of the Morrill Act, the federal legislation that began land-grant institutions and changed higher education forever. Schwieder will explain the political climate and physical circumstances that led to Iowa's original "first in the nation status."
