  • Variety of VEISHEA activities scheduled

  • Student organizations in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will have a visible presence during VEISHEA Week April 16-21.

    LAS is the sponsoring college on Central Campus Thursday, April 19. Events scheduled for this day include a "Feast on the First" luncheon, First Amendment Day, sponsored by the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication and performances including one by the GROOVE drumline and readings by the creative writing program in the Department of English.

    That event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Beginning at 2 p.m. the LAS Council, the student governing body of the College, will hold an "Ice Cream Social" in front of Catt Hall. Students, faculty and staff will distribute the treats until all the ice cream is gone.

    The LAS Council, GROOVE, the basketball pep band, ROTC units and other LAS student organizations will also be in the VEISHEA parade Saturday, April 21, beginning at 10:40 a.m. This is the first appearance by the LAS Council in the VEISHEA parade in recent memory.

    During the parade and afterwards, student organizations such as SCUM (Society of Chemistry Undergraduate Majors) and the Physics Club will hold their annual VEISHEA shows.

    The Geology Club and student groups from the life sciences will hold rock and plant sales throughout Saturday.

    A jazz festival will be held in the area between Carver Hall and the Music Hall throughout the day Saturday. The continous concert will feature various jazz ensembles from the Department of Music.
