Iowa State Singers to perform at two national conventions

It takes years for some collegiate choral ensembles to be invited to perform at a national music convention.

Not so for the Iowa State Singers, Iowa State University's most select choral ensemble. The group, under the direction of James Rodde, the Louise Moen Endowed Chair in Music and director of choral activities, has been selected to perform at the national conventions of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and the National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO) this year.

This is the second time in recent years that the 70-member choir has been selected to perform at the ACDA. The group was featured at the 2005 convention in Los Angeles. They will perform at the ACDA convention in Oklahoma City, Okla., March 5, 2009.

"The process of selection to an ACDA national stage is highly competitive and is widely considered to represent the pinnacle achievement for an American choir," Rodde said.

The Iowa State Singers was one of only 20 choirs selected to perform out of which only four were college/university mixed choirs.

Later this month, the Iowa State Singers will also sing at the NCCO national convention in Cincinnati, Ohio. Other choirs scheduled to perform include North Texas State, Western Michigan, University of Maryland, University of Louisville, and the Eastman School of Music.
