    STUDENT AMBASSADORS
    The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is accepting applications for its 2008 LAS Student Ambassador Program, an opportunity for current LAS students to get involved, help prospective students learn about Iowa State and assist in a variety of student events within the college.

    Applications are due Thursday, February 14, and short interviews will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, February 19 & 20. Additional information can be obtained from Ann Hawkins, recruiting coordinator, at anniehwk@iastate.edu.

    WOMEN IMPACTING ISU CALENDAR
    Twelve women whose leadership has made a difference at Iowa State will be honored by the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics on the second annual "Women Impacting ISU" calendar. Six Iowa State students and six faculty and staff members are included on this year's calendar which will be unveiled during a reception Friday, January 18, in the Memorial Union's Campanile Room beginning at 3:30 p.m.

    STUDY ABROAD IN PANAMA
    "Sustainable Development and Creative Photography in the Tropics" is an intensive, month-long academic program offered in May 2008 for students in any major to study broad issues and challenges of sustainable development in Panama. International studies majors who have chosen a tropical module in "Global Environmental Issues," a geographical module in "Latin America" or Spanish language study can fulfill some of their course requirements through this program. Applications are extended to January 18.

    COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS
    The application deadline for scholarships in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences for the 2008 fall semester is February 15, 2008. Details on how to apply for the scholarships as well as criteria and descriptions of the scholarships are available on-line.

    IOWA STATE TEAM LEADER
    New Student Programs is looking for students that would like to share their excitement for Iowa State. Team Leaders are responsible for attending Destination Iowa State August 21-23, 2008, and helping new students adjust to campus. A $200 stipend will be paid. Applications are due February 1 and interviews will take place February 25-27.

    INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS
    The Institute of International Education provides a unique funding opportunity for U.S. students to study in world regions critical to U.S. interests through the David L. Boren National Security Education Program. Applications for undergraduate scholarships are due February 12, 2008.

    HUMAN RIGHTS ESSAY CONTEST
    The University of Iowa Center for Human Rights is seeking essays for its Burns H. Weston International Human Rights Essay Competition. The competition is open to Iowa State, University of Iowa and the University Northern Iowa undergraduate and graduate students submitting an essay about an international human rights concern from any discipline. The deadline is February 1, 2008, with a $750 award given to the winning undergraduate student and $1000 to a graduate or professional student.
