ACADEMIC NEWS
TECHNOLOGY, GLOBALIZATION & CULTURE - The Department of World
Languages and Cultures and the Department of Mechanical Engineering are
offering a team-taught course during the 2007 fall semester. "Technology,
Globalization and Culture" (ME/WLC 484x/584x) is open to seniors and graduate
students of all academic disciplines. Students will learn through a variety
of interactions, including presentations by leading professionals from business,
industry, cultural institutions, and academia. Past presentations have spanned
the spectrum of political thought, from Robert Reich to Newt Gingrich.

WORLD LANGUAGES SCHOLARSHIPS - The Department of World Languages
and Cultures is accepting applications for six departmental scholarships.
The deadline is March 20 at 5 p.m. Further information on the scholarships

HONORS PROGRAM - The next informational meeting for LAS Honors
Program students will be Wednesday, March 7, at noon in 302 Catt Hall. The
college requirements for graduating in Honors will be reviewed as well as
a general overview of the program and the students' Honors projects. The
final information session will be held Thursday, March 22, at 4 p.m. in
353 Catt Hall.
PRE-LAW - "Preparation for Law School Seminar Course"
(LAS 290C) will be held in the fall semester and is limited to 25 students.
The course will explore law related careers, develop strategies to prepare
for the LSAT and become familiar with law school requirements. If you are

STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS - LAS students who are planning to study
abroad this summer or during the 2007 fall semester can apply for a LAS
study abroad scholarship. The deadline for summer programs is March 1 and
the fall program deadline is April 15.

STUDENT GROUPS
NEW GROUP INFO MEETING - An information meeting for a new student
organization, the LAS Dean's Leadership Team, will be held Tuesday, March
20, at 5 p.m. in 302 Catt Hall. The new group will, among other projects,
help plan student activities within the College including VEISHEA events
and a week-long LAS student celebration in the fall semester.

EVENTS
ACADEMIC RECEPTION - LAS Multicultural Student Services will hold
a recognition reception to honor students of color for their academic excellence
Sunday, March 25. A reception will be held at 6 p.m. followed by a 6:30
p.m. program in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union.
