October 1, 2008Women's Studies Program hosts Wine, Women and Song fundraiserIowa State University's Women's Studies faculty, staff and students will be hosting its first annual Wine, Women and Song fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 17, 2008 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Prairie Moon Winery in Ames. The cost of the event is $15 and will feature musical performances by The Bone People and Mary McAdams, a dance performance, food and non-alcoholic beverages and a silent auction. Wine will be available to purchase from the winery. All of the money raised at the silent auction will be used for scholarships or other student funding opportunities in the Women's Studies Program. "We are hoping to raise funds to continue to provide undergraduate and graduate scholarships and to establish some additional funds to help students with their professional development needs," said Snyder-Yuly, assistant director of the Women's Studies Program. More than 40 individuals and businesses have contributed items to the silent auction. Items include gift certificates from a variety of Ames and Des Moines businesses, jewelry and artwork. Some items will be stand-alone and others will be combined into gift baskets. For a list of contributors to the event please visit our website at www.las.iastate.edu/WomensStudies. "The community has really stepped up and provided us with a lot of really great items to have at the silent auction. We have hotel stays, massages, earrings and necklaces, golf certificates and a variety of other interesting items," said Snyder-Yuly. Tickets are $15 and are available by contacting the Women's Studies Program at 515-294-0578 or visiting the Women's Studies office at 309 Catt Hall, Iowa State University. The event will be held at Prairie Moon Winery, which is located at 3801 W 190th St. in Ames, IA. The Women's Studies Program at Iowa State University has been in existence since 1977, growing from a few cross-listed courses to serving hundreds of students every semester while offering major, minor and a graduate minor. Each year the program offers a graduate and undergraduate scholarship. |
