![]() Dawn Bratsch-Prince NEWS RELEASE 8-10-09 Contacts: Bratsch-Prince named interim director of Women’s Studies ProgramAMES, Iowa – Dawn Bratsch-Prince, associate dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and professor of Spanish at Iowa State University, has been named interim director of ISU’s Women Studies Program. The appointment follows a decision by Diane Price-Herndl to step down as the program’s director, said LAS Dean Michael Whiteford. Price-Herndl will remain on the ISU English faculty. No timetable has been set for naming a new director. ISU’s Women’s Studies Program offers an undergraduate major and minor and a graduate minor in women’s studies. The program, established in 1977, focuses on scholarship and issues relevant to women and gender, challenges existing systems of knowledge, and forges new scholarship based on gender. “The Women’s Studies Program plays a very important role in promoting diversity on this campus,” said Whiteford. “I look forward to having Dawn Bratsch-Prince lead the conversation for how we can move the program forward.” Bratsch-Prince has been a faculty member since 1990. She was chair of the Department of World Languages and Cultures from 2002 to 2008 when she became an associate dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. -30- |
