 You Could Win Something!
The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences announces a special 50th anniversary contest for undergraduate and graduate students. Spill your guts on how your Liberal Arts & Sciences education has impacted you and how you will impact the future. Categories include video, writing and mixed media. Cash prizes will be given to first and second place of each category, as well as a “Best of Show.” Submissions will be accepted until 5 p.m. November 2, 2009. Truman Scholarship Information Meeting
Sept. 14, 4 p.m., 1151 Jischke Honors Building
The Truman Scholarship awards up to $30,000 in funding for college students from a broad range of disciplines to attend graduate school in preparation for careers in government agencies, nonprofit organizations, or education institutions that serve the public. Recipients must be U.S. citizens, have outstanding leadership potential and communication skills, be in the top quarter of their class, and be committed to careers in government or the not-for-profit sector. Students apply in their junior year. The meeting will offer information on the scholarship, application procedures, and the process by which ISU will select candidates for endorsement. Making a Living While Making a Difference

Learn career perspectives from five non-profit agency representatives. There will be time available for networking. No advanced sign-up necessary.

Social Services Volunteer & Career Day

Conference on Global Health & Global Food
Oct. 14, one-day conference, Des Moines University
Explore the global connectivity between health and food with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, physicians, local leaders and students in a lively discussion. 12th Annual Colloquium on International Engineering Education
Oct. 22-25, Gateway Hotel and Conference Center, Ames
This year’s theme is “Engineering for the Future – Global Pathways. The colloquium is hosted by the College of Engineering and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The colloquium will provide a forum for leaders from universities, government, industry, and non-profits to discuss and share ideas and best practices pertaining to the education of engineers for today’s global workplace. Liberal Arts and Sciences Graduation Ceremony
Dec. 18, 8 p.m., Hilton Coliseum
The ceremony includes remarks from Dean Michael Whiteford and individual recognition of all students present. Students will cross the stage as their names are read and be recognized by the Dean and the Chair of their respective academic department.
