Flexibility - Selecting a major in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences allows you the opportunity to craft a degree program that is not only right for you but will also meet the needs of a changing world.

A Broad Education - That's the definition of a liberal arts education--courses in a variety of disciplines to help you long after you graduate from Iowa State. We offer 50 undergraduate majors in the sciences, humanities, social sciences, communications and mathematical disciplines.

Opportunity - It's not unusual for LAS students to have a second major in another subject. Students also take advantage of our diverse offerings to declare one or more minors.

A Chance to Explore - That's what college is all about-- exploring and finding out what you really want to do with your life. Haven't got a clue about what you want to do? Know this: you're not alone. Twenty percent of Iowa State students enter as Open Option students. If you start out Open Option, you take a variety of courses that meet general education requirements across the university before you know it, you have set a course for the future.
