Open Forum

  1. Attendance requirements:
    1. For organization representatives
      1. Only one unexcused absence (or two excused absences) is permitted per semester.
      2. The first LAS Council meeting (August 29, 2007) of the year does not count towards the absences.
      3. After you exceed the absences for the semester, your organization cannot receive funding for the semester.
    2. For GSB senators
      1. The rule is the same as listed in GSB Bylaws – GSB senators may be unexcused from no more than 1/3 of the meetings of the Council.
    3. If you really can't make it to a meeting
      1. If you can't make it and you need an excused absence, any of the officers can excuse you
      2. Organization representatives can have a substitute attend the meeting for them and it won't be counted as an absence
  2. SORP
    1. The new Student Organization Recognition Policy is going into effect
      1. The Council will need to modify the Constitution and Bylaws to remain a registered student organization
      2. We will need to decide which “tier” of membership we wish to apply for – different tiers come with different privileges with regards to room allocations, vehicle rental, etc.
      3. There are concerns as to whether the privileges accorded to the faculty advisor and dean conflict with the SORP requirements with regard to student-only voting and student control of student organizations
    2. Reineke, Turk, and Brady will prepare a presentation on the impact of the SORP for the next meeting
