LAS Student Council Meeting Minutes

Oct. 11, 2006

  • Malory Klocke elected Vice President
  • Kyle Byerly elected Treasurer (he knows his way around treasurer-esque business)
  • Quick review: the LAS Council is the voice for all the undergrads in the College of LAS
  • We hear the issues discussed by the masses and voice our opinion concerning their opinions to
  • Advisor
    • Random Fact: the LAS college has the biggest number of students enrolled in its ranks. We have a great power, and with great power comes great responsibility. That's a Spiderman quote... FYI.
    • Rob spoke on ideas for LAS Council awareness activities
    • VEISHA activities (ice cream social, tolerance and better campus climate promotion activities)
  • EVERYBODY: brainstorm more ideas for activities we as a council can sponsor.
    • Rob discussed LAS funds and the process for accruing those funds
    • Organizations with bigger participant numbers get more money.
    • We will be getting those funds from the GSB shortly and will establish a formula for distributing this wealth to the various LAS clubs based on enrollment in the various organizations.
    • Each club will need a list of all members so we may establish this formula
    • LAS also has negotiable funds procured from vending machines on campus that are not run by ISU Dinning services (I did not know that). What this means is that if your group would like to take a field trip, go to a conference of some sort, or receive any additional funding for any reason, it is possible to request an application for funding for said trip/conference/whatever.
  • Tim spoke on the role of the GSB and motioned to amend the bylaws of the LAS Council as well as the Constitution
    • A Committee was formed to facilitate this (Tim Reineke, Jordan Witmer, and Catalina Castillo).
  • There is an English Club Book Swap on the 19th with available signed hardcopies of a book by one of Iowa State's faculty - Be sure to attend
  • Next meeting will be at 5:10 p.m. on October 25th in 203 Bessey (where we met on the 11th) This will be the meeting place from now on.
