Placement Info

How do I know if I have to take placement tests?

Once you have made your reservation for orientation, you will receive a confirmation letter from the college of Liberal Arts & Sciences. This letter will indicate if you should take the math or English placement assessments based on your intended major and your ACT or SAT scores.

Math assessments are given online before you come to orientation. Take these at a personal computer- from home, or school, or the public library.

English assessments are given on campus during orientation.

If you would like to attempt to receive a higher placement than the one indicated by your ACT or SAT scores, you may take the math and/or English placement assessments even if we do not require them.

If you still have questions after receiving your confirmation letter call us at 515-294-6509 or e-mail us at lasorient@iastate.edu.
