Leslie Bloom

Leslie Rebecca Bloom received her Ph.D. in Education from Indiana University. She came to Iowa State University in the fall of 1993 in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Bloom teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in feminist research and in gender, race and class in the Women's Studies Program. She organized a Women's Studies conference at ISU in the Spring of 2006 called Feminism and Activism. In Education, she teaches graduate courses in qualitative research methodologies, curriculum theory and teaching/research for social justice.

Bloom's research focuses both on feminist approaches to qualitative research and on community organizing for low-income women. A former Peace Corps Volunteer (Thailand), Fulbright Scholar (Mexico), and Visiting Scholar (Taiwan), she is also very interested in international feminisms. She is the author of Under the Sign of Hope: Feminist Methodology and Narrative Interpretation. Albany, N.Y.: SUNY Press (1998) and many recent articles on issues of poverty.
