As an Associate Professor in Zoology and Genetics, Eugenia Farrar teaches several courses including Human Reproduction, Women in Science and Engineering, and Endicrinology. She has a strong interest in women's contributions to and interactions with the culture of science. She is currently working with Deb Lewis, curator of the Ada Hayden Herbarium, to collect information on early Iowa naturalists.

However, most of her research is in basic biology, emphasizing natural history of spadefoot toads, environmental hormone disruptors and their potential impact on declining amphibians. She especially enjoys field work and spends her summers chasing after thunderstorms looking for spadefoot toads that breed after heavy rains.
